Green Coffee Bean Extract

In a study reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it was found that green tea extract resulted in a significant increase in energy expenditure (a measure of metabolism), plus it also had a significant effect on fat oxidation. While some of the effects were originally theorized to be due to the caffeine content of green tea, the researchers discovered that green tea extract actually has properties that go beyond caffeine. The same amount of caffeine found in green tea was administered alone, but failed to change energy expenditure in other studies. This led Researcher's to believe that there is some interaction going on with the active ingredients of green tea that promote increased metabolism and fat oxidation.
The researchers indicated that their findings have substantial implications for weight control. Studies reviewed in Iron Magazine compared the rate of fat burning in a group that consumed green tea against another group that did not. They found that the polyphenols contained within the brew performed well. While energy expenditure from fat in the control group only amounted to 31.6 percent of total energy use, this rose to 41.5 percent in the green tea group.
